Hello Families! We had an eventful and exciting week in prek! The children are getting to know their daily schedule and enjoying their OWL centers! We will be moving on to our second week of OWL-Unit 1: Families. Please see below for some important notes. *Friday (10/7) is a school wide half day. All children will be dismissed at noon, including half-day children. Children will need a snack and a drink only (unless attending extended day). *Next week, please send in 2 photos of your child and their family. These photos will be used for a project in our OWL family unit. *The Early Childhood Welcome carnival is on Thursday, October 13th from 3:30-5:00. Sign up forms went home on Wednesday, if you plan to attend please send you form back in your child’s backpack by Thursday, October 6th! (See your child’s teacher if you need an extra copy). It is sure to be a fun family event! Our centers for next week will be: Painting with primary colors (ART): Creates artwork to express ideas. Explores and experiments with paint and art easel. Uses and cares for art materials. Playing with family figures (BLOCKS): Engages in conversation and uses language to enter into play. Begins to understand family needs, roles and relationships. Uses classroom materials purposefully and respectfully. Builds awareness of directionality and position in space. Painting furniture (DRAMATIC PLAY): Uses language while participating in dramatic play. Initiates interactions with other children. Engages in socio-emotional play. Uses play to explore social roles and emotional states. Acorn art (FINE MOTOR): Creates artwork to display in the classroom. Uses fine motor skills to create and decorate festive fall acorns. Small group- Shadow writing names: Children practice name writing and proper pencil grasp. Please read our new peanut free policy, effective on Monday, 9/26! It is very important that the children start their day on time, please arrive by 8:15 AM every day. Safety is at the forefront of every policy we have. We are a locked down building at 8:15, so make every effort to be on time. Any student arriving after 8:15 will enter through the front door on E. Broadway. Parents must wait with their child in the foyer until an early childhood staff member is available to escort your child to their classroom.
Hello Preschool Families, We have had a very busy week in prek! The children had an excellent week and seemed to enjoy trying out centers for the first time! We also had an apple tasting, where each child got to taste a red, green and yellow apple and then vote for their favorite apple. Next week we will begin our OWL (Opening The World To Learning Curriculum). Our first unit focuses on Families. Our centers for next week will be: Exploring water’s movement (science): Children use simple tools in exploring water. Develops fine motor skills. Shape collage (art & math): Creates artwork to express thoughts & feelings. Uses a variety of different tools and materials. Uses basic shapes and forms of different sizes to create artwork. Explores and experiments with concepts of patterns and symmetry. Building with blocks: Develops representational skills using 3-D objects. Interacts appropriately with others by cooperating, helping, sharing and expressing interest. Uses language to develop and maintain relationships in play. Explores spatial relationships and concept of balance. Playing house (dramatic play): Interacts with others by cooperating, helping, sharing and expressing interest. Uses language to develop and maintain relationships in play. Begins to recognize and respond to needs and emotions of others. We had a great first week in preschool! The children are adjusting well to the classroom routines and schedule of the day. This week, we had library with Ms. Teresa and Spanish class. It was nice meeting many of you at open house! We are very excited for the first day of school! Here are a few reminders you might find helpful. The first day of school is tomorrow, Monday (9/12). Tomorrow is an early dismissal day for all preschool children. Dismissal is at 12, noon. There will be no extended day on Monday, (9/12). Children will need a snack and a drink only tomorrow. The rest of the week, Tuesday-Friday are full days, 8:15-2:15. If your child is staying full day, they will need a snack with a drink and lunch with a drink. Preschool school hours are – Full Day: 8:15am - 2:15pm Half Day: 8:15am -11:30am Drop off and pick up for Ms. Kristen and Ms. Molly’s children will be at the schoolyard gym door. (No cars are to pull in the schoolyard at any time). *Please make sure your child gives their teacher a “high 5” at dismissal for safety purposes! Please return green communication folders as soon as possible. Make sure to fill out and return the forms included in the folder. School supplies can be brought in anytime this week.
